Palo Santo essential oil is steam distilled from the wood of Bursera graveolens, commonly known as Holy Wood.
Traditionally, the tree must die naturally and remain on the forest floor for at least two years before the aromatic compounds fully develop within the heartwood. The wood is then harvested and distilled to produce this treasured oil.
Approximately 9 kilograms of aged wood chips or sawdust produce about 500 mL of essential oil, making Palo Santo a labor-intensive and highly valued oil.
